EMT Review Program (NJ EMT Refresher Course "E")

Credit

This program is approved for 16 CEUs in either the Core or Elective category by the NJ Department of Health--Office of Emergency Medical Services .  The National Registry of EMTs accepts NJ CEUs on a one-for-one basis.   The Commonwealth of PA accepts NJ elective EMT CEUs via a special form which is also available upon request.

NJ EMTs may assign CEU earned from this course entirely to either the core or elective category, but not both.  It should be used in the same category as the 8 CEU EMT Transition Program to complete the 24 CEU required in that particular category.

Description

This EMT Review Program is a NJ-adapted complement to the new EMT Transition Program.  It provides a review of skills, knowledge, and critical thinking common to both 1994 USDOT EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) described in the 2009 National EMS Education Standards published by NHTSA Office of EMS.

This program is intended to be taken in conjunction with the EMT Transition Program to complete either the 24 CEU core or elective requirement for either the EMT-Basic or EMT.  While the two programs can be taken in any order, we recommend students taking both programs attend this EMT Review before the EMT Transition Program.

Prerequisites

The intended audience for this program is the currently practicing EMT-Basic.  Applicants to this program must prove current CPR certification at the time of the course and have completed an approved NJ EMT Initial Training Program.  However, this course is the recommended initial course for physicians, PAs, and nurses with no prior EMS training planning to challenge the NJ EMT exam under reciprocity.
