No formal credit is awarded.  Students who complete the course will be awarded a completion card valid for two years from the American Heart Association.

Description

This first aid course is designed to meet the needs of the general public and lay rescuers.  It provides basic information and practical skills for use at home or the workplace.  This course is well-suited for workplace safety teams, security guards, school workers, day care staff, teachers, coaches, babysitters, civic groups, church organizations, etc. Topics include:

Students should dress for practice on classmates and/or training manikins.  Some of this practice may be on the floor.

This course only teaches first aid.  We offer a separate course for CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator called Heartsaver CPR and AED.

A pediatric version of this course is also available that focuses on care for children and infants which is especially well-suited for babysitters and elementary school and day care workers.  It must be arranged by separate request.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites.  Students are expected to practice the various rescue techniques on fellow students and/or a training manikin.

Participants must have access to the current (Guidelines 2010) Heartsaver First Aid Student Workbook  (AHA publication 90-1027) before and during the course.
